Soak
Soak the wheatgrass seeds in cool water for 8–12 hours, then drain and rinse thoroughly.
- 02
Set
Place the hemp mat over the insert, add 2½ cups of water and spread seeds evenly.
- 03
Cover
Fit the blackout cover for the first 3 days while the seeds begin to sprout.
- 04
Reveal
Move the uncovered crop into normal indirect daylight and let the shoots turn green.

Cat grass is enrichment, not a medical treatment. Introduce it thoughtfully, keep the crop fresh, and ask your veterinarian about individual health concerns.
Read the full growing guideWhen is wheatgrass ready?
The current guide suggests offering grass around 3–5 inches tall. Growth usually takes 5–7 days, depending on conditions.
What if the first shoots look yellow?
Yellow shoots are normal just after blackout. They should turn green within a few hours in normal indirect daylight.
How do I know if a crop is not safe?
Fine white root hairs can be normal. Gray, green, blue or black growth—or a sour smell—means the batch should be discarded and the equipment cleaned.
Can I grow catnip in this tray?
No. The current guide says catnip should be grown in its own pot of well-draining soil and should not be soaked.
