Self Watering Cat Grass Kit Instructions
Grow fresh wheatgrass with your FelineBoost self watering kit. Follow the setup below before starting your first crop.
What’s in your kit?
- Bamboo surround
- Dishwasher-safe tray and insert
- Felt blackout lid
- Biodegradable hemp mat
- Wheatgrass seeds
Growing instructions
- Soak the seeds. Place the seeds in water and soak for up to 8 hours to help germination.
- Set up the mat and water. Place the hemp mat over the insert and tray, with the white side underneath. Tuck the ends down at each end of the tray. Pour 3 cups of water directly over the mat so the entire mat is wet. No additional watering is needed during this initial growing stage.
- Spread the seeds. Rinse the soaked seeds with clean water, drain, and spread evenly over the mat. Seeds can touch, but avoid piling them on top of each other.
- Cover the tray. Place the felt blackout lid over the tray.
- Remove the lid after 3 days. Look for small white-yellow shoots and roots beginning to grow into the hemp mat.
- Move into indirect sunlight. Keep the tray at 65–75°F. In humid conditions, provide good air circulation around the planter.
- Offer the grass when it reaches 4 inches. The supplied instructions estimate 6–10 total growing days. If your cat is hesitant, try placing the planter near their food bowl.
Keep the grass growing
Once the grass is ready, the supplied instructions recommend adding approximately 1 cup of water to the base every 10 days or so. Keep the planter in a cool spot during summer with plenty of indirect light. After a few weeks, wheatgrass naturally begins to wither.
Between crops
Remove the used mat and roots. Used hemp mats are biodegradable and compostable. Wash the tray and insert with warm soapy water, or place the tray and insert in the dishwasher. Keep the bamboo surround out of the dishwasher.
